Fiftytwo

It all started with our Magic Sundays, a series of weekends when we would plan something fun, surprising and always new to end the week. Joana's love for writing made her want to capture those experiences in words. It became a ritual. A romantic routine we looked forward too, but also looking back at. We loved the idea that at the end of a year, we would have 52 small stories to wrap up a year. Thats when it clicked, Bjørn realised 52 weeks of a year is the same amount of cards in a deck of playing cards. “What if the at the end of the year we print out each week on a card, maybe we can even play some games with it”.

We just needed a way to capture the weeks in a digital and consistent way. Bjørn quickly sat out to build us an app that we used for just ourselves. We loved it so much that we started sharing the app with friends and family.

But we still asked ourselves: why does the year have 52 weeks in the first place?

Turns out looong ago, the Babylonians looked up and laid the foundations of the modern calendar and the way we perceive time. From the moon cycle came our months, and from the stars came our weekdays. Yes, this system is essential to structure our modern society, but we realized that the way individuals experience time is very different - we care about events, moments, connection. Our life unfolds as a series of experiences, one after the other, that eventually turn into memories.

So, we choose not to look at the night sky, but to stare at the sky in daylight, as for us, memories are like clouds: ephemeral, changing, impactful, beautiful… and with Fiftytwo, we want each of us to enjoy writing about our cloudy sky of memories, to create a deck of cards to return to and remember, smile, cry, share moments and… why not play games and have some fun too?
